She employs future archaeology, hand-labouring and low-fi aesthetics to transform resonated materials into speculative landscapes. These multidisciplinary works serve as catalysts to rethink temporality, place, and embodied experience in digital era, seeking to create healing systems for digital alienation through alternative 3D forms. Joy has exhibited mainly in the UK and Taiwan for the past few years. I encountered a cultural ambiguity between tradition and modernity, there showed an abstracted paradoxical landscape. And at the current stage, in response, I collaborated with AI, feeding it with my texts, drawings and photos made during the trip to generate two sets of 84 images as below. The generation process was a negotiation between human and non-human agency that AI acted as a subjective collaborator, interacting with me back and forth. The process involved dismantling and reconstructing trip documentation- photos,&nbsp;texts written in Latour litany style, and an oil painting through repetitive hand-sculpting. Wool’s organic hue, imperfect texture, and relaxed charm physically echoed the experience’s perception. The repetitive labour was not merely production but as the forms of embodied research, transforming my body into a ‘time container’ that intuitively embedded my Oxford memory into wool, discovering how culture can be held tactilely, rather than just visually. Carrying out a 15-day online international exchange residency. The residency provided a framework for artists to share and exchange their studios/ rooms without having to travel abroad. Instead of sharing images of artists’ physical spaces, artists described the studios and rooms through words, videos, sound, etc. Based on these descriptions, each artist then created an artwork to respond to their partner’s unique working and rest space, and to reflect the richness of their cultural exchange. Through this process, artists had experienced each other’s life in various and alternative ways with multiple sensory stimulation rather than just visual satisfaction. CRYPTOCLADIC ARCHIVORA set in a speculative future through a poetic and fragmented narrative. By deconstructing and reassembling my artist partner’s studio to explore her practice of the relationship between memory, technology, and the biology. Using 'clay' and 'cats' as metaphors, the piece had reinterpreted the boundaries between the virtual and the real, and the nature of perception. Blending elements of science fiction, art theory, and post-human thought, the work embraces both experimentation and openness. The residency celebrated with 16 diverse artworks at the very end of the programme. The artworks were exhibited in Taipei, Taiwan for a month, and then in New York City for a one-day pop-up exhibition, accompanied by a live-streamed press conference with Taiwan. During this period, my residence in the northwest of London afforded me a daily view of the picturesque Grand Union Canal from my room window. This canal corridor served as a captivating haven for adolescent swans, ducks, and Canada Geese, all taking unsteady steps as they followed in the wake of their attentive parents. Meanwhile, a vibrant assortment of boats adorned the canal's surface, and within them, their owners exuded infectious cheer. This enchanting canal wasn't just a local feature; it was intimately connected to prominent landmarks such as the Portobello Market, Westbourne Park, and even ventured through the iconic Trellick Tower before converging with the serene canal district known as Little Venice, ultimately flowing into the River Thames. As it continued its winding journey through London, it eventually reached its terminus in Birmingham. The intricate network of branching waterways resembled an enigmatic underwater labyrinth that kindled my fervor for 'embodied research.' I embarked on daily waterside walks, dedicating myself to this endeavor for an entire year. Some days, these walks were brief, lasting only a couple of hours, while on others, they extended beyond five hours. more....︎ FILMS INSTALLATION TU-1 features a humorous and absurd role-playing approach, attempting to simulate a bird’s-eye view from the sky. It revisits the unique sensory experience of flying over the Alps for the first time during winter—where the dazzling, ice-encrusted, snow-covered mountains appear to freeze the vitality of the terrain, yet evoke a certain romantic and poetic quality. Through the eyes of a bird, the video captures the cycling principle of natural ecosystem, preserving this precious visual feast. At the same time, it recalls the journey with the innocence and wonder of childhood—a state closest to nature its unadorned essence. TU-1 showed with a sculptural installation in RCA WIP SHOW 2020,&nbsp;recreating the scene from the video shoot, intentionally elevating the entire structure within the exhibition space to echo the grandeur of the Alps. TU-1 had&nbsp;also selected by NOHAT ART for video art screening ‘What is She?’ at&nbsp;EX-Baldessarre in Belford, UK, which was a sister event to artist Andy Holden’s exhibition ‘What am I?’. TU-2 pushes&nbsp;TU-1 further, which expanded the discussion of mother nature, by embedding the Greek mythology of Gaia and Hou Tu Niang Niang in Chinese mythology.&nbsp;It showed on Everything Forever, a 3-week online exhibition featuring 90+ artists from around the globe who met on the RCA Contemporary Art Practice course.
